Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the look and formatting of a document written in a markup language. Unlike CSS 2, which is a large single specification defining various features, CSS 3 is divided into several separate documents called “modules”.

Some of the new CSS3 modules include:

  • Selectors-allow the designer/developer to select on specific levels of the document
  • Box Model-allows to add a border around elements, and to define space between elements
  • Text Effects-allows changes to the hyphenation, whitespace, and justification of text in documents.
  • Multiple Column Layout: allows designers to display their content in multiple columns
